030. Autumn Stream
In a forest bathed in the golden hues of autumn, a small stream flows between the stones... In this lesson, using the soft texture of soft pastels, we will bring the unique atmosphere of an autumn forest to life on paper together. Leaves turning orange, red, and yellow, golden reflections in the streambed, the cool texture of the gray stones, and the depth of the forest stretching in the background — all form the character of this work. You will learn layering, blending with your fingers, and working with natural textures, which are among the most beautiful aspects of soft pastels, through practice. Topics we will work on together in this lesson: **Autumn Color Palette** I will show you how orange, red, yellow, brown, and earth tones harmonize with each other, and how to create natural-looking clusters of leaves. **Water Reflections** You will learn how to achieve the golden colors of flowing water, the streambed flowing between the stones, and reflections with soft pastels. **Stone Texture Study** Techniques for creating the texture, light-shadow play, and natural appearance of stones in gray and dark tones. **Atmospheric Depth** How to create a sense of distance and forest depth by transitioning from the clear trees in the foreground to the soft forest in the background. **Layering and Blending** Using the finger blending feature of soft pastels to create transitions between layers, detail work with blending stumps, and preserving the natural character of the powder pastel. Materials used: Sennelier soft pastels and various brands of high-quality powder pastel sets. You can easily produce this work with your existing soft pastel materials. Fixative spray is recommended to protect your work. Let's capture the silence and golden colors of the autumn forest together. This lesson will be a special experience for those interested in nature-themed soft pastel work and wanting to create seasonal landscapes.
