Drawing is the foundation of all visual arts. Every artist who wants to use the brush, pastel, or pencil more consciously will eventually return to drawing. If you have completed our basic drawing training and want to take your drawing skills to the next level, this 6-week Level 2 live course is perfect for you. In this course, we will deepen your drawing skills with studies of form, volume, light and shadow, composition, and detail. We will move beyond basic line and value studies and delve into more sophisticated topics: still life compositions, portrait fundamentals, textured surfaces, and the analysis of complex objects. Topics we will cover in this course: Form and volume — you will learn how an object transforms from a two-dimensional piece of paper into a three-dimensional form, and how to apply basic geometric structures to complex objects. Advanced value studies — sophisticated use of light and shadow, richness of midtones, atmospheric depth, and dramatic contrast. Texture expression — how to express different surfaces such as fabric, glass, metal, wood, and leather through drawing, pencil pressure, and line character. Still life composition — compositions of multiple objects, direction of light, focal point, hierarchy in composition, and negative space. Portrait fundamentals — basic proportions of the human face, head and shoulder studies, simple capture of expression. Composition and framing — framing, cutting, and composition decisions to enhance the expressive power of the drawing. Your personal drawing language — individual guidance for each student to develop their own drawing style. In this course, we will use a Ravenart sketchbook, a kraft paper notebook, a Sonnet 12-piece pencil set in different hardnesses, a kneaded eraser, and 2 charcoal pencils. You can easily continue with your materials from our previous basic drawing course. This course is designed for students who have completed our basic drawing training or who have basic drawing knowledge (line, simple form, basic value studies). Those who complete the course will be able to participate in advanced drawing workshops and portrait studios. We start in November 2026. Drawing is the most powerful tool for training your gaze. Let's delve deeper together.
