Art is not just about colors and brushstrokes — behind every work lies a life lived, an emotion felt, and a message intended to be conveyed. In the first meeting of the "Lives from Art" workshop series, we embark on a journey with one of the world's most renowned artists — Vincent van Gogh. This workshop is designed as a two-part experience. In the first part, I will tell you about Van Gogh's life, his art, his techniques, and his unique way of seeing. We will discuss why he loved yellow so much, the story behind the swirling sky, and why his bold brushstrokes (impasto) set him apart from other artists. We will feel that art is not only a visual journey but also an emotional and intellectual one. In the second part, we move from theory to practice. We will choose one of Van Gogh's iconic works and create a piece in his style using the layered and textured structure of oil pastels. Our goal is not to copy — to understand his way of seeing, to capture the rhythm of his brushstrokes, and to experience that unique energy with our own hands using oil pastels. In this workshop, we will learn: **Van Gogh's Life and Art** The artist's short but intense life, his periods, his most important works, and his perspective on art. You will get to know Van Gogh closely, from his years in Arles to his final days. **Post-Impressionism and Van Gogh's Place** The art movement Van Gogh belonged to, his contemporaries, and the characteristics that set him apart. You will understand your work more deeply with knowledge of art history. **Van Gogh's Techniques** Impasto (thick paint application), swirling brushstrokes, vibrant and textural use of color, contrast of complementary colors — the technical characteristics that made Van Gogh who he was. **Interpreting Van Gogh with Oil Pastels** I will show you step-by-step how to adapt Van Gogh's oil painting techniques to oil pastels, and how to create thick layers and textural brushstrokes. **Composition and Color Rhythm** How to capture the movement, rhythm, warm-cold balance, and dynamic energy of the sky in Van Gogh's works. Materials used: Mont Marte Extra Soft oil pastels, Sennelier oil pastels, and mixed high-quality oil pastel sets. You can easily participate in this workshop with your existing high-quality oil pastel set. This workshop is a special experience for artists interested in art history, wanting to see the world through the eyes of masters, and wanting to take their oil pastel skills to the next level. A life from art history and a work from that life — together we will both learn and create. Let's look at the world through Vincent van Gogh's eyes, for one day.
