Lives Through Art - Part 2 - Claude Monnet

Lives Through Art - Part 2 - Claude Monnet
In the second session of the "Lives from Art" workshop series, we embark on a journey with Claude Monet. After the fiery energy of Van Gogh, we now explore the secrets Monet held in the light, wind, and open air. This workshop is a two-part experience: In the first part, we will discuss Monet's life, art, and techniques. We will explore the birth of Impressionism, Monet's revolution in plein air painting, and his Argenteuil period with his wife Camille and son Jean. In the second part, we will work on Monet's iconic painting, "Woman with a Parasol - Madame Monet and Son" (1875). Camille with an umbrella among the grass, little Jean beside her, her dress fluttering in the wind, a cloudy blue sky... We will recreate this intimate moment of Monet's family with our own hands using the layered texture of oil pastels. In this workshop we will learn: - Claude Monet's life, art, and his period with Camille/Jean - Impressionism and the "plein air" revolution - Small brushstrokes, broken color and light techniques - Interpreting Monet with oil pastels - Figure, movement, wind, and flowing fabric studies - Composition from a low angle and atmospheric sky Materials used: Mont Marte Extra Soft oil pastels, Sennelier oil pastels, and mixed quality oil pastel sets. We continue our series, which began with Van Gogh, now with Monet. A special experience for artists interested in art history and wanting to see the world through the eyes of the masters.
