Oil pastels, with their creamy texture, are one of the most beloved techniques among art lovers. Both easy to use and offering vibrant colors, they are an ideal entry point for beginners in painting. This 6-week beginner-level vibrant oil pastel course is carefully designed for art lovers who want to take their first steps into the world of oil pastels from scratch. In the course, we will be using the Mont Marte Extra Soft oil pastel set — you can choose between 72 or 120 colors. Both offer a rich color range, soft texture, and beginner-friendly use, making them ideal for your first steps in oil pastels. For notebooks, we recommend the Mont Marte Multicolored pastel notebook or the Schoellershammer 2 notebook; both work perfectly with the creamy texture of oil pastels. In the first few weeks, we will explore the characteristics of oil pastels, the correct techniques, and basic color mixing together. You will learn form and shade with simple fruit studies, and practice layering and blending techniques with colorful still-life objects (such as apples and cupcakes). In the following weeks, we will move on to nature landscapes — you will hone your skills with natural subjects such as forests, trees, and river reflections. In the final weeks of the course, we will combine what you have learned with an autumn-themed landscape study. A structure by the lake, water reflections, and autumn colors — you will have created a small but satisfying composition. This course is designed for adult art lovers who have never touched oil pastels or who want to transition to oil pastels from other techniques. Those who complete the course can continue to our Level 2 oil pastel training. We will work in a live lesson format with small groups and personalized feedback. We start in November 2026.
